Caspar Wolski participated in the Vet in Schools program and found it helped him to decide which area of the building industry he wanted to work in.

Susan Johnstone completed the Bachelor of Environmental Design degree at the University of Tasmania and a year later began a building trades course at TAFE to gain some practical experience.

Sam Walter completed Grade 12 and joined the family company as a labourer determined to learn the business from the bottom up.

Caspar Wolski Profile "During my two years in the VET course I spent placements of a couple of weeks at a time with a builder, a plasterer and a painter. Peter Killick Profile "While not all the content (Diploma of Front Line Management) was new to me, it provided structured and practical insights into company management which will no doubt make me a more effective manager in what I believe is a fantastic industry." Susan Johnston Profile "I was keen to join the industry and the traineeship was fantastic. I was put under the wing of the head estimator, the construction manager and a number of the on-site supervisors and learnt a great deal. Sam Walter Profile "It was a very good course (Certificate III course in Civil Construction [Plant]). We learnt the basics such as occupational health and safety, laying concrete, using small plant and equipment and laying pipes and then worked up to operating the big machines such as excavators, front end loaders and graders."
