Apprentices are crucial for developing a highly skilled and relevant workforce in Australia. This is achieved by:

  • Providing genuine opportunities for skills-based training and development
  • Encouraging people to enter skills-based training through an Australian Apprenticeship

To ensure our construction industry is supported while employing apprentices, there are several incentives available. You can learn about the eligibility of employer incentives and personal benefits in the Australian Apprenticeships Incentives Program Guideline in the list of downloads.

The National Skills Needs List

The National Skills Needs List is used for determining who is eligible for incentives to reduce our national skills shortage. These include:

  • Rural and regional Skills Shortage Incentive
  • Support for Adult Australian Apprentices

Australian Apprenticeships Centres

These centres deliver free Australian Apprenticeship Support Services to employees and Australian Apprentices. These include information and incentives.

Trade Support Loans

These loans can offer eligible Australian Apprentices up to $20000 over the course of their apprenticeship. You can apply to opt-in for regular instalments according to your needs.

Youth Allowance, Austudy or ABSTUDY

Australian Apprentices may also be eligible to access fortnightly payments delivered by Centrelink:

Youth Allowance for Australian Apprentices aged 16-24;

Austudy for Australian Apprentices aged 25 and over;

ABSTUDY for Australian Apprentices of any age and who are Indigenous Australians.
